‘Scared to death’: Local election officials on edge ahead of 2024 vote

While election officials across the nation are confident they can overcome foreign and domestic threats to run a secure election in November, they are concerned whether Americans will believe them. Many election officials are also expressing extreme concern regarding potential backlash from individuals who do not believe the election results. These comments were widespread at a recent conference for election workers held in Virginia; their comments are far from unfounded, with one in six election workers experiencing threats because of their job and 77% saying threats have increased in recent years.
