Republican lawmakers in New Hampshire have introduced a series of bills which would make it more difficult for college students to vote. Those bills prevent students from voting in New Hampshire if they maintain a domicile address in another state, forbid students from registering to vote at their college address, and prohibit the use of a college ID as a voter ID. Biden signs executive order aimed at promoting voting rights
President Biden has signed an executive order which seeks to expand access to voting and voting information. Signed on the 56th anniversary of “Bloody Sunday,” the order directs federal agencies to devise plans to increase voter registration and participation, help states with voter registration efforts, and modernize Vote.gov, the federal government’s voting information website. In an interview with Fox News, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) called H.R. 1, the recent major voting and ethics reform law passed by House Democrats, “rotten to the core.” He accused Democrats of passing a bill which will give the federal government more power over elections in order to benefit Democratic candidates. House passes sweeping voting rights bill over GOP opposition
Congressional Democrats have House Resolution 1, also known as the For the People Act, a large and significant piece of voting and ethics reform legislation. The bill would require states to automatically register eligible voters, offer same-day registration, offer 15 days of early voting, and allow no-excuse absentee balloting, while limiting states’ ability to purge registered voters from their rolls. Majority of House Democrats vote in favor of lowering voting age to 16
An amendment to lower the national voting age to 16 failed in the House of Representatives by a vote of 125 to 302, with a majority of House Democrats voting in favor of the proposal. The amendment was authored and sponsored by progressive lawmakers in the House, including Rep. Ayanna Pressley.
