The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), one of the most powerful, best-funded lobbying groups in Washington, is planning a large campaign against the “Squad”—a small group of highly visible and popular progressive Democratic legislators of color, most of whom are women. AIPAC is seeking to primary the progressive legislators because of their criticisms of Israel’s military campaign against Gaza following the October 7th terrorist attack by Hamas, specifically their calls for a cease-fire. Members of the Squad have been some of the only American politicians to call for a cease-fire in the conflict, a policy polling shows is supported by 66% of Americans and 80% of Democratic voters.
