While many Americans are opting to vote by mail this election, many are also expected to cast their ballots in person. For some, this will require waiting in line for hours. Two non-partisan organizations, Feed the Polls (which is partnering with Zagat, The Infatuation, and The Migrant Kitchen) and Pizza the Polls (which is partnering with Uber Eats), are pledging to serve food to tens of thousands of voters and poll workers across the country on Election Day. Georgia voters are facing technical difficulties and long lines as early voting for the general election begins. Some voters reported waiting in line for up to 10 hours, but many have also reported being in good spirits and determined to have their vote count. California’s Secretary of State and Attorney General issued a cease-and-desist order to the state Republican Party, which has been setting up unofficial (and often insecure) ballot collection boxes across the state. The California Republican Party defended their actions by arguing that they are simply giving voters “an opportunity for their friends, family and patrons to drop off their ballot with someone they know and trust.” The Secretary of State responded by reminding Californians that, regardless of intent, unauthorized collection boxes are illegal.Visit the NPR
