Wisconsin governor signs new state legislative maps into law, ending a GOP gerrymander

Wisconsin’s Democratic Governor Tony Evers signed new legislative maps into law on Monday, shifting the balance of power in a state legislature that has been dominated by the GOP for more than a decade. The change comes after the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that the state’s existing maps, which have been described by experts as some of the most gerrymandered in the country, were unconstitutional. According to analysis by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the new maps have a roughly even split of Democratic and Republican-leaning state Assembly districts, which gives Democrats high hopes for big gains in the upcoming election.
