Republican Jeff Landry will win Louisiana governor’s race, CNN projects

Republican Jeff Landry is projected to win the gubernatorial race in Louisiana. Under Louisiana’s jungle primary system, all candidates had to run on the same ballot and the top two finishers, regardless of party affiliation, would have had a runoff if no one had cleared the 50% threshold Saturday. Landry, a hard-line conservative who has repeatedly clashed with the current Democratic governor John Bel Edwards and joined Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s ultimately unsuccessful lawsuit seeking to overturn the 2020 presidential election, cleared the 50% threshold and will succeed Edwards as the next governor of Louisiana.
