Minnesota enacts automatic voter registration, penalties for election misinformation

Minnesota will have automatic voter registration going forward under a new bill signed by Governor Tim Walz. The Democratic Governor claims this change, and other changes including pre registration for 16- and 17-year-olds and a permanent absentee ballot option, will help the state of Minnesota continue to be a leader in voter participation. According to the Secretary of State’s office automatic registration is estimated to add 450,000 new or updated voter registrations per year.
