Current polling indicates a likely rematch in the next presidential election between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, which would be the sixth presidential rematch and the first since the 1950s. However, a look at statewide election rematches paints a clearer picture of how this scenario usually plays out for the candidate trying to reclaim their position. In fact, in 25 Senate rematches since 1950 only two ended with different results than the prior election; additionally in 44 gubernatorial rematches challengers only won 14 times (31%).
