Under Texas Senate Bill 1750, Elections Administrator Clifford Tatum’s post was going to be eliminated effective September 1, until Judge Karin Crump of Travis County granted an injunction last Tuesday morning to keep the law from taking effect. However, the state Attorney General has already appealed the decision to the Texas Supreme Court. The county is currently preparing to administer early voting in the upcoming fall election without Tatum, with the start of early voting beginning in just two months election officials feel they must be prepared regardless of whether the state Supreme Court upholds the lower court’s decision.
