Iowa Democrat to Challenge Six-Vote Loss in Appeal to US House

After a recount, Republican Marianette Miller-Meeks was certified as the winner over Democrat Rita Hart by six votes in the race to represent Iowa’s 2nd congressional district. The margin of victory is the smallest in a House race since 1984, and the smallest in Iowa in over a century. Rather than seek further remedies in Iowa courts, Hart will file an election contest pursuant to the Federal Contested Election Act, which could lead to the Democratic-controlled House conducting its own investigation and recount.
