House Speaker Mike Johnson played a key role in efforts to overturn the 2020 election

The new House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, played a key role in efforts by former President Donald Trump to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Johnson was the GOP caucus vice chair at the time and led the amicus brief signed by over 100 House Republicans in support of a Texas lawsuit seeking to invalidate the 2020 election results in four swing states Biden won: Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The lawsuit drew harsh criticism from state attorneys general who described it as a “publicity stunt” and “false and irresponsible.”
