Squad amendment to restore voting rights to felons, incarcerated individuals fails in House

An amendment to grant incarcerated individuals the right to vote failed in the House of Representatives by a vote of 97 to 328. The amendment was authored and sponsored by members of “the Squad,” a group of progressive lawmakers in the House which includes Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Ayanna Pressley. The amendment was offered to House Resolution 1, also known as the For the People Act, a massive voting rights and reform bill recently passed by House Democrats.
