China suspected of using AI on social media to sway US voters, Microsoft says
Microsoft researchers claim to have found what they believe to be a network of fraudulent Chinese-controlled social media accounts attempting to influence US voters using artificial intelligence. While researchers have not specified which social media platforms were affected, screenshots within their report show posts that appear to be on Facebook and Twitter. A Chinese embassy spokesperson denied the accusations, saying that China advocates for the safe use of artificial intelligence. Election workers have gotten death threats and warnings they will be lynched, the US government says
Over a dozen people in multiple states have been charged with threatening election workers by a Justice Department unit trying to curb the violent and graphic threats against individuals who count and secure the vote. Secretaries of state and experts have warned that government employees are being threatened at higher rates, even during normally quiet periods in between elections.
